OMEGA Mifare Online – a mechatronic access control for integration in numerous applications
Flexibility in adapting to new challenges and changing circumstances in the organization is an essential characteristic of the new OMEGA Mifare access control system available from CEStronics as it can be easily integrated into a large number of existing and future security and organization applications.
Programming is made online at the PC and transmitted per radio via Access Points and repeaters to the locking devices at the doors. The repeaters extend the range of transmission from the network to the locking devices. They only require a power supply but do not have to be connected with the IP network which further minimizes the wiring effort. The wireless OMEGA Mifare electronic cylinders and fittings are suitable for any lock prepared for a profile cylinder and can thus be readily installed without any alterations at the doors.
Mifare is a global RFID standard with millions of applications mainly in domains such as ticketing, access control, time recording, billing systems and burglar alarm engineering. This opens up an interesting market for the incorporation of locking systems, all the more so since existing systems can always be retrofitted with OMEGA Mifare components.
An innovative highlight of the new system is the patented energy-saving wake-up mechanism for battery-operated electronic cylinders. Thanks to this CEStronics development, it is no longer necessary to wake up the cylinder by touching it or by turning the knob – the cylinder will immediately detect the presence of a Mifare transponder within its reading range. This novel feature combines a high level of operator convenience with maximum battery life for the double knob cylinder. Apart from the Mifare Classic transponders, any transponder complying with the ISO 14443 standard (DESFire, LEGIC Advant) can be read and used as a key within the system.
The OMEGA Mifare system is available in different levels of implementation. The devices comprise battery-operated wireless double-knob cylinders and intelligent electronic shields as narrow and wide door fittings plus wall terminals for doors where the installation of mechatronic locking devices is not appropriate.
The new double-knob cylinder stands out by its elegantly designed smaller knobs. In addition to the standard knob, also a weatherproof version for outdoor installation is available. Proven features have been retained, such as the typical CES light ring indicator, the power supply by a single CR2 battery, the possibility to connect an external emergency power and the coupling system that has been tried and tested in thousands of applications.
Apart from the compact wall terminals, the OMEGA Mifare system also comprises variants for high-security applications with readers on the outside and control units installed within the secured inside area. For revolving doors, automatic sliding doors, barrier installations, roller gates or sliding gates, also wall terminals with identification on both sides are available. These terminals can communicate with each other over a distance of up to 20 metres, and the installation only requires simple standard cables.
As an alternative to the versions in the familiar CES case, also designs for integration in the Gira, Merten and Buch-Jäger switch series are available. The readers can also be incorporated in Siedle Vario modules.
Programming via the CEStronics RF-NET radio network
The wireless network technology already established in the market with the OMEGA ACTIVE system also ensures a high level of convenience and security of Mifare applications.
OMEGA Mifare locking devices can be integrated into any IP network via Access Points and can thus be programmed online. This way, changes in the access authorizations can be directly transmitted from the PC to the cylinder concerned. In turn, the cylinder sends data on events to the Access Point from where they are passed on to the central PC.
Each of the OMEGA Mifare locking devices is also able to operate as standalone unit independent of the network and decide on its own whether or not a person is granted access at the respective time. So should a power failure interrupt the network or render the master computer inoperative, this will not compromise the security at the doors.
Access Points transmit and receive radio signals over a distance of up to 25 metres. A new feature of OMEGA Mifare is the use of repeaters which pass on the signals between the Access Points and the cylinders over an extended distance. As they do not require any wiring, these repeaters allow a cost-efficient extension of the radio network. Up to three repeaters can be connected to an Access Point.
Especially in larger office buildings, the use of a wireless network offers a considerable advantage: the support and maintenance effort is significantly lower than for solutions with programmer or PDA. Programming can be conveniently performed at the desk, changes are immediately effective, and no-one has to walk to the doors to program the devices.
All OMEGA Mifare locking devices are designed to permit retrofitting or upgrading so you can build your system from the most basic solution with Master media programming into a comprehensive wireless network without having to replace any of the devices.
