CES keys are made from nickel silver. The material is durable, high-quality and feels pleasant to the touch. The large key blade allows for the transmission of higher torques, which is particularly advantageous for modern doors with high thermal insulation. The key shank, which is at least 14 mm long, is designed to fit standard security fittings with a cylinder cover.

This is made possible by an access control system. The system specifies exactly which key is authorised to lock which doors. In a block of flats, for example, a flat key can open the resident’s own flat, the letterbox and the residents’ storage room. At the same time, the same key can also lock central doors such as the front door, the garage entrance or the refuse collection point.

Other flats or restricted areas remain locked out. In addition, there may be master keys, for example for caretakers or the management. In larger buildings, hierarchical access rights can also be implemented using master keys, group keys or general master keys.

This creates a convenient and secure solution: users only need one key for all authorised doors.

There are different types of locking systems depending on the type of building, its use and the access authorisation structure. In residential buildings, the focus is usually on convenient and straightforward access solutions, for example for front doors, flat doors, cellars, letterboxes or communal areas. The aim is to enable residents to lock all authorised doors with as few keys as possible, without gaining access to areas not intended for them.

In commercial property construction, the requirements are often more complex. Here, different user groups, departments, security zones or parts of the building must be managed in a structured manner. To this end, access control systems are used that can accommodate hierarchical authorisations, centralised access and future expansions.

The type of access control system that is suitable depends on the specific property, the number of doors, the user groups and the desired level of security. CES provides support in selecting the right solution for residential construction, commercial property or individual customer profiles.

An existing locking system can be expanded provided that the system in use is designed for this purpose and the necessary authorisation documents are available. Depending on the system, additional cylinders, keys or access authorisations can be added. This is based on the existing locking plan, which specifies which key is authorised to lock which doors.

The appropriate security card is usually required to authenticate a locking system. It confirms that keys, cylinders or extensions may only be ordered or modified by authorised persons. In this way, the security card protects the locking system against unauthorised reorders.

Authorisation can also be carried out digitally via our CES registration portal. A registration code is required for registration; this can be requested via the security card or, in the event of loss, via the relevant loss report form.

Depending on the locking system and area of application, various knob variants are available. These differ in terms of shape, size, finish and ease of use, amongst other things. Custom embossing or markings on cylinders and security cards may be possible, depending on the locking system, model and project requirements. Our sales team will be happy to discuss with you whether custom embossing can be arranged and, if so, in what form.

The length of a lock cylinder is always measured from the centre of the fixing screw. Measure once to the outside of the door and once to the inside. The two measurements combined give the required cylinder length, for example 30/35 mm.

It is important to take the door thickness, including the fitting or security fitting, into account. The cylinder should fit as snugly as possible and not protrude unnecessarily. If in doubt, it is advisable to consult a specialist to ensure that the correct cylinder is selected for the door in question.

If a lock cylinder is sticking or the key is difficult to turn, treating it with the appropriate CES maintenance spray may help. The spray helps to ensure the cylinder operates smoothly and should be used sparingly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Do not use unsuitable oils or greases, as these can attract dirt and impair the functioning of the lock cylinder. If the cylinder remains stiff despite maintenance, it should be checked by a specialist.

A door lock and a lock cylinder are two different components of a door. The door lock is fitted into the door leaf and ensures that the door is closed or locked.

The cylinder is the part into which the key is inserted. It checks whether the key fits and transmits the rotational movement to the door lock.

Put simply: the cylinder is operated by the key. The door lock secures the door. This is why a cylinder can often be replaced without having to replace the entire door lock.

The security of a cylinder can be enhanced by incorporating appropriate protective features. These include, for example, drill protection, pull-out protection and pick protection. These features make it more difficult to tamper with the cylinder and increase resistance to unauthorised opening.

In addition, a suitable security fitting with a cylinder cover may be advisable, as it provides mechanical protection for the cylinder. Escape and panic doors require lock cylinders that are compatible with the door in question, the panic lock and the required escape function. It is important that the cylinder does not interfere with the panic function and that the door can be opened reliably in an emergency.

The CES 8710 F cylinder is suitable for this application. It is designed for situations where escape and panic doors need to be securely integrated into a locking system. As the door, lock and cylinder must always be considered together, the specific design should be agreed on a project-by-project basis with a specialist partner or the CES sales team.

This depends on the cylinder used. With a cylinder featuring an emergency and hazard function, the door can still be opened from the outside even if a key is inserted on the inside. This is particularly useful for flat and front doors, as an authorised key will still work from the outside in an emergency.
